Amkor to relocate $2B factory out of Vistancia to Peoria’s Innovation Core (PIC) following Peoria’s 835-acre State Trust Land acquisition at Loop 303 and Lake Pleasant Pkwy

“Tempe-based Amkor has been poised to build its $2 billion semiconductor chip packaging and testing facility in the master-planned community of Vistancia.”

Changing places: “It's now planning to relocate the plant to a swath of land the city is setting up as the Peoria Innovation Core, following an Arizona State Land Department auction Aug. 27.”

Here’s the deal: The city of Peoria “placed a winning bid of $46.7 million for 834.5 acres of state trust land. That site is northwest of the Loop 303 Freeway and Lake Pleasant Parkway intersection and is referred to as the “Core 2” section of the innovation core…. The decision to move the site was based on "market demands" and increased project scope necessitating a larger site, according to a statement from the city.”

But: “The project has drawn stiff criticism among Vistancia residents, with many expressing concerns about potential water and air pollution, zoning conflicts and placement of a heavy industrial building near a school and high-density housing.”

The next move: Today, “Peoria City Council will consider several items… including a land exchange agreement and development agreement that would allow Amkor to construct its facility on 104 acres within the newly-acquired land.”
