The La Paz County Board of Supervisors approved a Comprehensive Plan Amendment and a Conditional Use Permit at their Jan. 5 meeting for another new solar project along Interstate 10 in eastern La Paz County. Copia Power, which has offices in three western states and Washington, D.C., made the request for their Stanley Energy Project Phase I.
The project would be on 3,962 acres of land held by the Bureau of Land Management and the Arizona State Land Department. They want to build a 500 megawatt solar powered electricity generating facility along with a battery storage system. They want to tie in to the Ten West Link transmission line.
Emily Skill, Senior Manager for Development at Copia, said the project will be located on I-10 between Sore Finger Road and Avenue 71. She said they wanted an amendment to the Comprehensive Plan to change the designation of the land they want from “Open Land and Parks” to “Light Industrial.” She stated further this would be in keeping with the County’s desire to create an industrial corridor on I-10.
