Related Midwest and city officials came together to officially break ground on a two-tower skyscraper project planned for the notorious Chicago Spire site. The site was originally intended for The Spire, a doomed mega-tall skyscraper project that failed, leaving a massive crater for nearly 16 years. Now, the vacant site at 400 Lake Shore will feature a $500 million development with two residential towers. The first phase includes a 72-story, 858-foot tower on the northern end of the site that will comprise 635 rental apartments. The project also includes the highly anticipated DuSable Park as well as an extension of the Chicago Riverwalk.
