Key Points
The Evanston City Council narrowly approved a 29-story, 419-unit fully-electric apartment tower at 605 Davis Street, which will become the suburb’s tallest building, rising 299 feet.
Twenty percent of the units (84 in total) are designated as affordable housing, allowing the project to qualify for Cook County’s Affordable Housing Special Assessment Program, which provides phased-in property tax breaks over 30 years.
The approval followed a decade of debate, with opponents criticizing the tax breaks as "too generous." Construction from Vermilion Development, Campbell Coyle, and partners is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2026 and slated for completion by early 2028.
