Highlights
Joe Mansueto’s Chicago Fire soccer team spent $69 million on a land parcel from an entity tied to Related Midwest and co-owner Iraqi-British billionaire Nadhmi Auchi, providing a financial boost to Related Midwest.
The purchase is part of the Chicago Fire’s $650 million, privately-funded stadium project, which was approved by the Chicago City Council in September and is slated for completion in time for Major League Soccer’s 2028 season.
The 22,000-seat stadium will serve as an anchor for Related Midwest’s latest development proposal — an expected $8 billion mixed-use campus along the South Branch of the Chicago River at the 62-acre property known as The 78.
