Highlights
NextEra Energy ($NEE), the largest electric utility in the U.S., is partnering with Brookfield on a massive $100 billion data center campus in Paducah, Kentucky.
The project will redevelop a former Cold War-era uranium enrichment site into a next-generation AI and data center hub powered by new energy infrastructure.
Plans include building 2 gigawatts of natural gas-fired power generation along with up to 2.6 gigawatts of battery storage, creating one of the largest energy-backed data center developments in the country. For perspective, 1 gigawatt can generate enough electricity to power roughly 750,000 homes.
The investment comes as the Trump administration pushes to expand U.S. power capacity to meet the rapidly growing electricity demand driven by AI and hyperscale data centers.
