Efforts to get the state to pick up about $7 million in infrastructure improvements necessary to build Wisconsin’s first Buc-ee’s in the village of DeForest is stalled at least until the end of the year, with funding negotiations on hold until after the November election.

The Texas-based gas station chain identified its potential first Wisconsin location in February 2023, planning a 75,000-square-foot store with 120 gas pumps just north of Madison. Buc-ee's owns the land for its planned DeForest location after paying $4.2 million for 23 acres in April 2023.
